Don't care what anyone else reckons.... February 27, 2010 A. Millar 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
A long time fan of Massive Attack I have continued to buy their releases - some better than others, but all worth having.
This album, however, is one I cannot stop playing. I love it. Its gloomy, melodic soundscape fills me with pleasure and is totally addictive.
The vocals are great - both by guests and the band. There is a wide range of sounds being showcased, but all the tracks fit well together.
It's an extremely solid offering from Massive Attack - right up there with anything they've done before. Don't understand how some of the reviews are so unfavourable for Heliogoland - I guess that some people have set expectations of where this band should be going, or just haven't let the tracks 'bed down' in their heads. Either way, it's their loss!
In my opinion everybody should try this one...
Worth the wait February 26, 2010 P. Lomax 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
It's been a while, but this is a great offering from the Bristol group, back with Grant "Daddy G" Marshall. To me, there's much more of the trip-hop chillout here that I've always loved in Massive Attack. Particular highlights for me are Splitting the Atom and
Paradise Circus; yes, you might not always find them that uplifting, and perhaps there's nothing 'new', but this is the sound Massive Attack created for themselves, and long may they continue in this vein.
Quality again! February 24, 2010 L. Morrison (England, United Kingdom) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you like Massive Attack and have enjoyed the previous albums, you will enjoy this.
Anyone who has only given this album 1 or 2 stars has probably only listened to it once or twice.
It is like all Massive attack albums, a slow burner. They are all fine wines, they get better with age.
Just buy it and listen to it cranked up loud!
Can someone please.. February 19, 2010 M. DALTON (Brisbane, Queensland Australia) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
..tell me what's limited about this edition? The tracklisting is the same and the cover looks the same. Unless I'm missing something, Amazon haven't pointed out what sets it apart from the other edition.
Excellent February 18, 2010 Mr. J. G. Myers (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
A little bit more understated that some of their earlier work. Laconic in places especially with guests such as Damon Albarn on the disc - but all the better for it. However, it is still deeply rich with textutes, patterns mood and emotion. I've grown up with Massive Attack and this disc show's their work has matured with me. Excellent - buy it.
