1 out of 5 stars What the hell?   April 12, 2010

Frankly I am quite disapointed with this album.
Being a big Massive Attack fan I am wondering what the hell were they thinking when they wrote this dire morose music.
There is not really a good track on this album, a few start out promising but quickly return to drugery.
Find someone who has it and give it a listen before wasting any money buying it.HeligolandHeligoland (Triple Gatefold Vinyl + CD) [VINYL]Heligoland (Extended) [+digital booklet]

2 out of 5 stars Oh, that's different   April 5, 2010

"Oh, that's different" is what my mum would say when presented with something she hated, but wanted to avoid offending.

After hearing track one, Pray For Rain, I thought 'yes - this is an absolute masterpiece', and for that track I still hold that opinion.

From there however, things get a little bit, shall we say 'too creative'. And different.

Track four is probably the best of the rest, but even that, which would make a great dance remix, has this off key brass section towards the end which is, different.

On reflection I would have bought the album just for 'Pray For Rain', but don't think I'll listen much to the rest of it.

A superb album, basically faultless. The best thing Massive have done for a while. Interesting, sublime, beautiful. Go and buy it now!

2 out of 5 stars very disappointing   March 25, 2010

Having been a great fan of Massive Attack over the years, I was looking forward to this one, especially with the rejoining of their former band member. Unfortunately what we have here is a bunch of tracks which you really want to like, but ultimately you just can't be bothered. They are so laid back in nature that the whole thing feels instantly forgettable and bland. Some people found they liked this album after many more listens, but to be honest I just haven't found anything there to even tempt me back. What a pity.
