5 out of 5 stars A stonkingly great album   May 24, 2010

I have loved GA for along while now so was a little unnerved when reviews first came out about this album saying it's good but doesn't quite deliver! I'm glad I ignored the initial reactions as the more you listen to this album, the more you realise what an absolute monster of an album it is. It delivers upbeat tempo fused with 80s synths, and a little bit of goth for luck. Mix it all together and you get some incredible tunes. Sister Look Me in the Eye is a gem of a tune and will be in your head for days.
I think the journey into a new sound has paid of for the boys and just when you think they can't get better, out comes Black Light. I wasn't going to see them at Glasto this year as have seen them a couple of times before, but on the strength of this album, I think it will be hard to keep me away!
Well done boys, keep up the good work!

5 out of 5 stars Really good album   May 20, 2010

great tunes, different to GA's earlier material but it's a natural progression. expect most of the tracks to be remixed into dance versions!

I was really looking forward to this album, along with new albums by LCD Sound System, Massive Attack, Hot Chip and Gorillas, which all deliver. I'm afraid this one doesn't. In fact its really annoying. Sorry GA.

5 out of 5 stars all good   May 17, 2010

It's hard to choose a best track - 11 winners. Incredible. An excellent mix of dance beat/synth and darker edginess/ melancholy. Interesting music AND catchy - amazing combination. All 11 tracks. There are glimpses of the the essence of the sounds of the likes of Joe Jackson, Chrissie Hynde, Rupert Hines (disturbing), Eurythmics, Tears for Fears, Prefab Sprout, Duffy, B52, Trainspotting and Goldfrapp (no surprise there I suppose). It's not copying - it's just an avalanche of top drawer sounds. But it's not just dance (which IS there - fairly hypnotic at times); it's the sense of unease that gives it depth and interest and, probably, longevity.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant return to form   May 14, 2010

I found Soundboy Rock a little disappointing but this is a welcome, if unexpected, return to form for the GA guys....it perfectly mixes then and now, rock and electronica, guitars and computers...it is uplifting while also giving time for reflection and sentiment.

I can't stop listening to it...I love it and I cannot wait to see them at Glastonbury this year!
