Girls Can't Catch...but they can make a rollocking pop single April 3, 2010

You have to worry for Girls Can't Catch. As manufactured girl-band pop goes, Echo is another winner for the girls, to follow up the really rather catchy Keep Your Head Up. Yet their debut failed to crack the top 20, and this only just sneaked in at number 19.
Which is a pity. As Cheryl Cole drifts off to generic Americanised R'n'B nonsense and Nadine Coyle gets ready to unleash her solo album on the unsuspecting world (and let's be honest, you wouldn't bet on that project being very good), the UK charts are surely crying out for someone to take over Girls Aloud's mantle (even more so now that the Sugababes have slipped into a world that's almost akin to self-parody) and provide some excellent girl-band pop music.
Girls Can't Catch, with two great singles under their belt, could fill that gap but don't look as if they'll be around long enough to get a fair crack of the whip. Such is the state of the music business in the UK these days, but that doesn't change the fact that Echo is a cracking pop single, which deserved to do a lot better than it ultimately did in the charts.
