5 out of 5 stars I have to disagree!   February 8, 2010

Sorry but I have to disagree with another reviewer, this song(and album) is simply spectacular, the soul in her voice and the lyrics give me tingles EVERY single time I listen to it, it has hit over 80 plays in the first week of me owning it, and that was a while back now, I'm not sure what the play count sits on at the moment. Whoever cannot appreciate Alicia Keys and the musical genius that she is, should probably be better of listing to has been x factor fame thriving contestants.

Part II is a great partnership with the first song. This song is probably for those that want a subtler sound to the original. I think they both sound good. Variety is the spice of life ;-)

2 out of 5 stars A poor imitation of her own song - why do that?   December 15, 2009

Empire State Of Mind by Jay-Z and with Alecia Keys on the chorus is one of my favourite tracks of the year, and here Alecia tries to increase her stamp on the song by working the chorus into her own musical take on New York. Coming from Hell's Kitchen, you'd think she'd have more to say that it's famous from movie scenes, there are sirens and the streets are mean. Even when she does touch, very briefly, on the seedier side it's so bland and fleeting that she needn't have bothered.

I'm sad to say it, but this version is so limp that it cheapens the great chorus. She really should have put the original on her CD instead of this, but at least people who like Alecia but not Jay-Z get the option of an all-Alecia version.
